An Overview of Oregon Motor Vehicle Accident Law

Oregon is a no-fault state. This means that your insurance company will cover medical expenses and wage loss for up to $25,000 or one year, whichever comes first. This coverage is known as Personal Injury Protection, or PIP.

No-fault insurance doesn't mean that fault isn't an important factor in your accident. If someone else caused your accident, you have the right to sue the negligent driver. Oregon is a comparative negligence state, which means you can sue the other driver as long as their negligence outweighs yours.

Beyond negligence, you must be able to prove that you suffered an injury that was caused or made worse by the accident.
