Artificial intelligence's future role in diagnoses

Despite the advances that have been made in the field of medicine, misdiagnoses are still a common occurrence. Oregon residents should be aware that artificial intelligence might play a significant role in how patients are diagnosed in the near future.

Some of the tools and methods that are used to diagnose patients during an initial encounter have been used for more than 100 years. According to a speaker at a Silicon Valley medical conference, science that employs data algorithm technologies that can process vast amounts of medical information can be used to provide diagnoses.

The speaker noted that medical errors kill far more people around the country each year than motor vehicle accidents. Humans are not equipped, even with experience, instinct and training, to process the data that is being produced by medical technologies, such as genome sequencing and health sensors.

The future innovative version of health care would transition physicians from processing substantial medical data to have them concentrate on providing comfort to patients and explaining medical issues. It would also use artificial intelligence to perform the work of medical specialists by assessing the multiple health conditions patients may be experiencing and have the primary physician explain the results. The primary distinction of a physician will not be based on his or her IQ, but will depend on how well he or she relates to patients.

A misdiagnosis can lead to a worsened medical condition in a patient, as the actual disease goes untreated until it is finally diagnosed correctly. This could result in the need for aggressive and expensive additional medical care and treatment. Patients who have been harmed in such a manner may want to discuss their situations with a medical malpractice attorney.
