When women go into labor, they are embarking on an amazing and dangerous journey into child birth. There are a host of issues that can arise when women give birth and having quality medical assistance on hand may not always solve the problems. At least 50,000 women experience severe childbirth complications every year. This number, however, is thought to be much higher, as many institutions fail to report and/or account for complications due to childbirth.
Women may suffer from high blood pressure, hemorrhages, seizures, heart attacks, strokes and other complications prior to and during child birth. They may need hysterectomies or blood transfusions following delivery as a result of complications. These issues can prove to be catastrophic if women are not given immediate and proper medical attention. In some cases, medical attention is delayed or not given at all, which could result in serious injury or death to the mother.
According to an investigation conducted by USA Today, some hospitals are more prone to childbirth injuries than others. One out of eight hospitals in the United States had nearly double the number of childbirth complications.
If you or someone you know has suffered from childbirth complications, it may be beneficial to contact a medical malpractice attorney regarding your legal options and rights. You may be entitled to compensation for your injuries, medical expenses, as well as any pain and suffering you may have experienced.
